The Lakefield Chiefs gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Clarington Eagles. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jayd Killingbeck's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. With the win, Lakefield avoided elimination to make the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series. Killingbeck was all over the ice for the Chiefs, as he tallied two goals in the win. Lakefield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Clarington power plays. The Chiefs' offense rang up 42 shots on Clarington's net. Josh Duggan also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Jordan MacLean and Mike Connelly, who each chipped in one. The Eagles forced Lakefield goalie Michael Christie to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Clarington was helped by Brent Hambly, who had one goal. Hambly scored 8:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Liam Rowe assisted on the tally. Clarington also got a goal from Austin Collins as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Elms, Dylan Howorko, and Jordan Neuman, who contributed one each. The Chiefs' Christie stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Lakefield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Zack Wainman made 39 saves for the Eagles on 42 shots. Clarington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
