Clarington rides Wainman to victory over Lakefield, 5-1

The Clarington Eagles relied on the sparkling performance of Zack Wainman in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Lakefield Chiefs.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Lakefield faces elimination next time out.

Clarington was sparked by William Lamoureux, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lamoureux scored 13:57 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Patrick McAuliffe picked up the assist.

Clarington also got points from Kevin Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Clarington also had goals scored by Jordan Neuman, Brodie Myers, and Mark Gavrilov, who scored one goal each. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Elms, Liam Rowe, Justin Holiad, Darby Medd, and Braden Gray, who contributed one each.

The Chiefs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Clarington power plays.

Lakefield was led by Mike Connelly, who scored the team's only goal. Connelly scored 2:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Dalton Hill assisted on the tally.

Wainman rejected 28 shots on goal for the Eagles. Clarington incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Christie made 21 saves for the Chiefs on 26 shots. Lakefield incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
