Clarington squeaks by Lakefield, 4-2

The Clarington Eagles gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Lakefield Chiefs.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brodie Myers secured the win for Clarington with a goal in the second period.

With the win, the Eagles evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Clarington was led by Brent Hambly, who registered one goal and one assist. Hambly scored on the power play 31 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Clarington. Myers assisted on the tally.

Lakefield was unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Clarington additionally got points from Myers, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Clarington also had goals scored by Dan Michel and Darby Medd, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Mackenzie Morissette, who had two and Chris Elms and Jordan Neuman, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs' offense rang up 34 shots on the Eagles' net.

Lakefield was helped by Eric Oosting, who racked up one goal. Oosting scored on the power play 4:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. The Chiefs had gotten the advantage when Clarington's Kevin Smith was sent off for slashing. Dalton Hill picked up the assist. Jayd Killingbeck also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Josh Duggan, Riley Campbell, and Jeff Hawthorne, who contributed one each.

Zack Wainman recorded 32 saves for the Eagles. Clarington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Christie made 38 saves for Lakefield on 41 shots. The Chiefs incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
