Lakefield downs Clarington in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Lakefield Chiefs' Ethan Schott scored 9:07 into overtime to beat the Clarington Eagles, 3-2 (OT).

The win gave Lakefield a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Chiefs were led by Schott, who tallied one goal.

In a losing effort, Clarington was paced by Collin Weston, who racked up two goals. Weston scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Eagles had taken the advantage when Lakefield's Connor Ellis got sent off for high sticking. William Lamoureux picked up the assist. Weston's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 13:39 left in the third period. Clarington had gained a power play chance when Nick Hildebrand was whistled for slashing. Cody Kean provided the assist.

The Chiefs forced the Eagles goalie Zack Wainman to work between the pipes, taking 60 shots. Team could not crack Clarington's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Lakefield also had goals scored by Dalton Hill and Jayd Killingbeck, who each put in one. More assists for Lakefield came via Riley Campbell, Keenan Runnalls, and Aaron Vatcher, who contributed one each.

The Eagles kept Lakefield's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Christie made 43 saves on 45 shots.

In addition, Clarington received assists from Brodie Myers, who had one.

The Chiefs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Wainman recorded 57 saves for Clarington. The Eagles incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
