Tavistock beats Wellesley 5-4 after comeback scare

The Wellesley Applejacks tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Tavistock Braves would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

A goal by Jacob Rooke put Tavistock up 5-1 in the third period, but Wellesley pulled to within one on Alex Uttley's tally 19:39 into the third period.

With the win, the Braves evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

With four goals and one assist between them, Angus Rowland and Rooke teamed up to power Tavistock's offense. Rowland grabbed two goals and Rooke also added two goals and one assist.

The Braves forced the Applejacks goalie Ryan Hergott to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Tavistock additionally got points from Maverick Petrie, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Rooke, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Ocean Check, who had two and Jake Wiffen, Kevan Hadad, and Josh Borys, who contributed one each.

Wellesley was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Wellesley also got a goal from Brenden Goran as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Cal Jefferies and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in two.

Riley Collins rejected 25 shots on goal for Tavistock. The Braves incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Ryan Hergott made 32 saves for the Applejacks on 37 shots. Wellesley ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Applejacks, Nick Palmer was ejected from the game.
