Amherstburg rolls over Wheatley, 7-1

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks had trouble finding ways to stop the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals, which beat Omstead Sharks, 7-1.

The win gave Amherstburg a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Integrity Admirals' Connor Meyerink was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Meyerink will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Amherstburg was paced by Jordan Luciw, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Luciw scored 11:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstburg. Ryan Holzel assisted on the tally.

The Integrity Admirals forced Wheatley's goalies to work without much rest, taking 44 shots and forcing 37 saves. Eric Morneau made 37 stops and Adam Leboeuf made zero. Amherstburg had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Amherstburg additionally got points from Blaine Bechard, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Broden Meloche, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Travis Campbell, who also registered one goal and one assist, Austin Jennings, who also had one goal and one assist, and Kasey Basile, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Spencer McConville also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Dylan Muzzatti, who had two and James Brooks, Lucas Bersuk, and Marshal Laing, who contributed one each.

The Omstead Sharks' offense rang up 33 shots on the Integrity Admirals' net.

Wheatley was led by Brian Johnson, who scored the team's only goal. Johnson scored on the power play 14:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg. The Omstead Sharks had gained a power play chance when Curtis Prymack was whistled for tripping. Andreas Gossmann picked up the assist.

Amherstburg incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Wheatley incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Omstead Sharks, Nick Tavolieri-Essex was ejected from the game.
