Dresden wins tough contest against Blenheim, 7-5

The Dresden Kings gutted out a close 7-5 win against the Blenheim Blades.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Isaac McLean's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

With the win, Dresden evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Dillon Liberty had a great game for the Kings, netting two goals. Liberty's tallies came on the power play at 14:50 into the second period to make the score 3-3 and on the power play 14:21 into the third to make the score 6-4 Dresden.

Dresden kept Blenheim's goalie busy throughout the game, and Klinton Kenney made 29 saves on 36 shots.

Dresden additionally got points from John Montgomery, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle Dawson, who also had one goal and two assists, and Kevin Ritzer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Taylor Sisson also scored for Dresden. Other players who recorded assists for Dresden were Dayne Davis, who had two, Derrick VanEvery, who had three, and Logan Purbrick, Derek Shaw, and Derek Daly, who contributed one each.

The Blades were helped by Bryce Broad, who registered one goal. Broad scored 3:09 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Dresden. Kier Cumming picked up the assist. Blenheim also got points from Brayden Hopkins, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Cumming, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Drew Marlatt, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blenheim also got a goal from Dustin Maines as well. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Matt Clark, Brendan Ritchie, and Nick Delyzer, who each chipped in one.

The Kings' Travis Moore stopped 15 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Dresden incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Blenheim incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
