The New Hamburg Firebirds and the Norwich Merchants were evenly matched throughout their contest, but New Hamburg made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. The Firebirds gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Randerson 9:40 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave New Hamburg a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Firebirds' penalty kill excelled, as New Hamburg gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. The Firebirds were paced by Randerson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Norwich was unable to stop New Hamburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Firebirds eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Mario Alyas and David Jennings, who scored one goal each. More assists for New Hamburg came via Quinten Haddock, Curtis Smith, Brandon Quan, and Andrew Boer, who contributed one each. The Merchants forced New Hamburg goalie Ryan Purcell to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Norwich was helped by Zack Morrison, who had one goal. Morrison scored on the power play 2:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. A boarding penalty on Boer had put the Merchants on the power play. Troy Lamoure assisted on the tally. Norwich also got a goal from Brandon Velda as well. In addition, Norwich received assists from Derek Slaght, Adam Harris, and Jamie Kelly, who each chipped in one. Purcell rejected 30 shots on goal for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Andrew Lefebvre recorded 37 saves for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Norwich ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kelly was ejected from the game.
