New Hamburg rips Norwich, 7-0

The New Hamburg Firebirds had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-0 win over the Norwich Merchants.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Norwich faces elimination next time out.

New Hamburg got the win thanks to a great game by Quinten Haddock, who had one goal and two assists. Haddock scored 7:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Carter Tracey assisted on the tally.

The Firebirds forced the Merchants' netminders to work in net, ripping 56 shots and forcing 49 saves. Andrew Lefebvre made 29 stops and Andrew Hawkins made 20. New Hamburg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

New Hamburg also got points from Curtis Smith, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Walker Davison, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tracey, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Tyler Kleine, Mario Alyas, and Andrew Boer, who scored one goal each. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Ethan Adair and Tyler Randerson, who each chipped in one.

Tanner Topham recorded 24 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Norwich incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
