Ayr uses big second period to beat Burford, 12-3

The Ayr Centennials used a six-goal second period to put away the Burford Bulldogs, 12-3.

The win by Ayr clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Centennials got the win thanks to a great game by Connor MacLean, who had two goals and one assist. MacLean scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ayr. Cole Cummings picked up the assist. MacLean's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Ayr with 16:13 left in the second period. Jake Whibbs assisted on the tally.

Burford was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Ayr was able to score six times while on the power play.

The Centennials forced Bulldogs' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 56 shots and forcing 44 saves. Michael Black made 32 stops and Kyle Sephton made 12. Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulldogs to score on any of their seven power plays. The Centennials' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in five goals.

Ayr additionally got points from Ben Roelofson, who also registered two goals and two assists, Whibbs, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Riley Clipper, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Quinn Diamond, who also had one goal and one assist, and Cash Seraphim, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Ayr included Nolan Ferris, Jackson White, Zachary Masterson, and Tyler Harrison, who each put in one. In addition, Ayr received assists from Matt Harding, who had two, Mitch Klie, who had three, and Logan Beechey and Jordan Pettitt, who contributed one each.

Burford was led by Daiken Salsman, who racked up two goals. Salsman scored the first of his two goals at 17:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Kurtis Christo provided the assist. Salsman's next tally made the score 3-2 Ayr with 17:13 left in the second period. Connor MacKay assisted on the tally. Tyler Hinde also scored for Burford. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Matt Zilke, who had one and Owen Hinch, who had two.

Ayr's Jackson Swindells stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Centennials incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Bulldogs incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
