Ayr pulls away in second, rolls over Burford, 8-1

The Burford Bulldogs was within striking distance after one period, but the Ayr Centennials put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-1 victory.

The win gave Ayr a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Centennials were led by goalie Jackson Swindells, who finished with 40 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Swindells will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Ayr was paced by Jackson White, who grabbed one goal and one assist. White scored 15:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr. John Nay provided the assist.

The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Burford power plays. Ayr forced Burford goalie Michael Black to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

Ayr additionally got points from Jake Whibbs, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Riley Clipper, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Tyler Harrison, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nay, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Connor MacLean and Cole Cummings, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ayr received assists from Cash Seraphim and Brendan Schaefer, who each chipped in one and Ben Roelofson, Zachary Masterson, Quinn Diamond, and Jordan Pettitt, who contributed two each.

The Bulldogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Centennials were unable to stop Burford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulldogs eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Black made 42 saves for Burford on 50 shots. The Bulldogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Burford, Matt Zilke was ejected from the game.
