Pike nets hat trick, leads Hanover to 5-2 win over Mount Forest

Mitchell Pike netted a hat trick to lead the Hanover Barons over the Mount Forest Patriots, 5-2.

Pike got on the scoresheet 12:55 into the second period. He then added goals at 7:05 into the third and at 19:27 into the third.

With the win, Hanover avoided elimination to make the series score 3-3 in the best of seven series.

Mount Forest's power play was ineffective against the Barons' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Hanover stifled the Patriots' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Barons' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Hanover also got points from Wendel Cameron, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jarrett Kuntz, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Carson Ivel, who had two and Justin D Graham, Tanner Mighton, Joel Shantz, and Cole Leslie, who contributed one each.

Mount Forest put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Hanover to score on any of its eight power plays. The Patriots forced the Barons goalie Cody Van der Heide to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Mount Forest was helped by Riley OConnell, who racked up one goal. OConnell scored 11:25 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Hanover. Blair Butchart picked up the assist. Doug Costanzo also scored for Mount Forest. More assists for Mount Forest came via Michael Stefanelli, who had one.

Cody Van der Heide made 29 saves for Hanover on 31 shots. The Barons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Patriots' Mathieu Oullette stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Mount Forest incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
