Hanover shrugs off penalties, upends Mount Forest, 5-2

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Hanover Barons were able to defeat the Mount Forest Patriots, 5-2.

The win by Hanover broke a deadlock and gave the Barons a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Hanover was led by Mitchell Pike, who finished with one goal. Pike scored 13:04 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hanover. Mitch Wand picked up the assist.

The Barons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Mount Forest power plays. Hanover forced Mount Forest goalie Mathieu Oullette to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. The defensemen of the Barons were also effective in the Patriots' zone, and came away with two goals.

Hanover also got points from Wand, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Hanover included Carson Ivel, Tanner Bastien, and Jarrett Kuntz, who each put in one. In addition, Hanover received assists from Justin D Graham, Denver Hill, Matt Shields, Tanner Mighton, and Cole Leslie, who each chipped in one.

Mount Forest's offense rang up 41 shots on Hanover's net. The Patriots managed to hold the Barons' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage.

Mount Forest was helped by Riley OConnell, who tallied one goal. OConnell scored 9:56 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mount Forest. Mitch Betts provided the assist. Mount Forest additionally got points from Doug Ardis, who also racked up one goal and one assist.

Cody Van der Heide recorded 39 saves for Hanover. The Barons incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors. Mathieu Oullette made 41 saves for the Patriots on 45 shots. Mount Forest incurred 62 minutes in penalty time with 16 minors. For the Patriots, Doug Costanzo and Trevor Hughson were ejected from the contest.
