Pickering downs Markham, 5-2

Austin Veleke racked up one point to lead the Pickering Panthers to a 5-2 victory over the Markham Royals.

In the losing effort, Markham was sparked by Tyson Bruce, who tallied two goals. Bruce scored the first of his two goals at 3:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Markham. Joel Knight assisted on the tally. Bruce's next tally made the score 2-1 Markham with 19 seconds left in the first period. Marco Azzano picked up the assist.

Pickering stifled the Royals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers' offense rang up 32 shots on Markham's net. Pickering's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Panthers finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Pickering additionally got points from Andrew Hughes, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Tiger McDonald, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pickering included Robert Clark and Doug Carter, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Dallas Carter, John Hudgin, Kyle Gentles, and Mitchell Waldron, who contributed one each and Davis Kuksis and Owen Scuralli, who each chipped in two.

More assists for Markham came via Sean Perichak, who had two.

Troy Paquette rejected 22 shots on goal for Pickering. The Panthers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Scott Smith recorded 27 saves for the Royals. Markham incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
