Appleby College beats Upper Canada College 4-3 after comeback scare

The Appleby College Blue Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Upper Canada College Blues on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Sammy English put Appleby College up 4-2 in the second period, but Upper Canada College pulled to within one on Elliot McDermott's tally 4:39 into the third period.

The Blue Dogs were led by English, who had one goal. English scored on the power play 19:39 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Appleby College. Appleby College had gained a power play chance when Michael Murphy was whistled for roughing. Jacob Gower picked up the assist.

The Blues were unable to stop the Blue Dogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Appleby College eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Appleby College additionally got points from Gower, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dayton Saunders, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Adam Scholz also scored for Appleby College. More assists for Appleby College came via Zach Landau, Callum Jones, Will Graham, and Tommy Hoogaars, who each chipped in one.

Upper Canada College's offense rang up 45 shots on the Blue Dogs' net. The Blues could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The defensemen of Upper Canada College were also effective in Appleby College's zone, and came away with two goals.

Upper Canada College also got points from Jacob Golden, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Murphy, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Upper Canada College received assists from Ryder Thususka, who had one and Reid Humphrey, who had two.

Nicolas Solari rejected 42 shots on goal for the Blue Dogs. Appleby College incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Colby Muise recorded 31 saves for the Blues. Upper Canada College registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
