Hoogaars' hat trick boosts Appleby College over St. Michaels College, 5-1

Tommy Hoogaars netted a hat trick to lead the Appleby College Blue Dogs over the St. Michaels College Majors, 5-1.

Hoogaars' first goal came 10:55 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:31 into the second and at 13:20 into the third.

St. Michaels College was stymied by Appleby College's netminder Nicolas Solari, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Solari certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.36 entering the contest.

The Blue Dogs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Appleby College has scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Appleby College also got points from Sammy English, who also had one goal and one assist. Jacob Gower also scored for Appleby College. In addition, Appleby College received assists from Phil Mazzuca, who had two and Blake Mueller, Matt Thompson, Callum Jones, and Michael Rubin, who contributed one each.

The Majors struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 14 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

St. Michaels College was led by Adam Plouffe, who scored the team's only goal. Plouffe scored 12:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels College. Jonah Alexander picked up the assist.

The Blue Dogs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mark Nesbitt recorded 21 saves for the Majors. St. Michaels College registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
