Kern lifts Penn State University over Northeastern University, 5-0

The Penn State University Nitty Lions relied on the scoring touch of Darby Kern, who netted four goals, to beat the Northeastern University Huskies, 5-0.

Kern got on the scoresheet 4:38 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:04 into the second, at 6:35 into the third, and at 12:23 into the third.

Penn State University managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Nitty Lions ended up below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game. Northeastern University was unable to stop Penn State University from sending pucks towards the net, and the Nitty Lions eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

Penn State University also got points from Cassandra Dunne, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Penn State University were Jacqueline Saideh, Devon Fisk, Elizabeth Tuorinsky, and Riley OConnor, who contributed one each.

The Huskies' offense were handcuffed by Penn State University's defensive play, and Northeastern University managed only 13 shots on goal during the game.

Hanna Scanlon recorded 13 saves for the Nitty Lions. Penn State University registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Huskies' Kimberly Pfeifle stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Northeastern University incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
