Mcdonald nets hat trick, leads Liberty University to 4-1 win over Adrian College

Lauren Mcdonald lifted the Liberty University Flames to a 4-1 victory with a hat trick against the Adrian College Bulldog.

Mcdonald's first goal came 5:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:26 into the second and at 2:54 into the third.

Liberty University was led by goalie Kelly Hutton, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Hutton managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.11 prior to the game.

The Flames were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. Liberty University surpassed its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flames excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Adrian College was unable to stop Liberty University from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flames eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Liberty University additionally got points from Clarissa Tipping, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Liberty University received assists from Madison Fischer, Catharine Burrell, Chelsey Greenwood, Lauren Pillisch, and Brittany Hymers, who contributed one each.

The Bulldog did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Adrian College averages 3.2 goals per game. The Bulldog forced Liberty University goalie Hutton to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Adrian College's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Bulldog average 1.5 goal allowed per game.

Adrian College was led by Kaillie Hardy, who scored the team's only goal. Hardy scored 18:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Liberty University. Alicia Tait provided the assist.

The Flames registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Alison Dungey made 37 saves for the Bulldog on 41 shots.
