Michigan University of uses early goal to top Michigan State University, 3-1

Mercedes Reyes scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Michigan University of Wolverines held off the challenges of the Michigan State University Spartans in a tough 3-1 win.

Reyes provided Michigan University of with the game-winning tally when he scored 12:36 into the first period. Leah Krieger picked up the assist.

The Wolverines were led by Reyes, who racked up one goal.

Michigan University of's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Michigan State University power plays.

Michigan University of also got points from Jenna Trubiano, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Michigan University of also got a goal from Jennifer Cusmano as well. More assists for Michigan University of came via Karoline Inman and Caroline Hurd, who contributed one each.

Michigan State University found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 12 shots against the Wolverines' defense.

The Spartans were led by Kendall Clary, who scored the team's only goal. Clary scored 4:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alexandra Strohm provided the assist.

Julia Chenoweth made 11 saves for Michigan University of on 12 shots. The Wolverines incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Michigan State University's Kathryn Hamer stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Spartans incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
