Malvern Prep outlasts Downingtown West, 4-3

The game between Malvern Prep and Downingtown West was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Malvern Prep emerged with a 4-3 win.

Malvern Prep gained the winning advantage on a goal by Patrick Kavanaugh 15:53 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Stephen D Elia had two goals and one assist to lead Malvern Prep. D Elia scored the first of his two goals at 2:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Malvern Prep. D Elia's next tally made the score 2-1 Malvern Prep with 10:28 left in the first period. Charlie Andress picked up the assist.

Malvern Prep's offense rang up 41 shots on Downingtown West's net. Malvern Prep could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ethan Bedwell also scored for Malvern Prep. In addition, Malvern Prep received assists from Nicholas Fantini and Joey Abel, who each chipped in one.

Downingtown West forced Malvern Prep goalie Matthew Hollinsghead to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Downingtown West was helped by John Michael Owens, who finished with one goal. Owens scored on the power play 5:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Downingtown West had taken the advantage when Malvern Prep's Abel got sent off for roughing. John Guay assisted on the tally. Downingtown West also had goals scored by Drew Barron and Alec Connolly, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Downingtown West were Zach Hanaway, who had one and Tino Digiorgio, who had two.

Hollinsghead rejected 28 shots on goal for Malvern Prep. Malvern Prep registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Eric West made 37 saves for Downingtown West on 41 shots. Downingtown West incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
