Colorado State University beats Adrian College 4-3 after comeback scare

The Adrian College Bulldog tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Colorado State University Rams held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Kelly French put Colorado State University up 4-0 in the second period, but Adrian College pulled to within one on Nicole Paradis's tally 14:08 into the third period.

The Rams' penalty kill excelled, as Colorado State University gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Rams got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Colorado State University was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes.

The Rams were led by Avery Kauffmann, who tallied one goal and one assist. Kauffmann scored 18:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Colorado State University. Emily Mahanna picked up the assist. Colorado State University also had goals scored by Sierra Dell and Michelle Harcrow, who scored one goal each.

The Bulldog excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Adrian College forced Colorado State University goalie Meghan Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Bulldog's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Adrian College is averaging 1.3 goal against for the season.

The Bulldog were helped by Morgan Praska, who racked up one goal. Praska scored 13:25 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Colorado State University. Sabrena Camp provided the assist. Adrian College additionally got points from Kaillie Hardy, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Adrian College received assists from Summer Frey and Valerie Twigg, who each chipped in one.

Meghan Nelson made 32 saves for the Rams on 35 shots. Adrian College's starting goalie, Ellyn Stanton, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Alison Dungey, who stopped three shots. The Bulldog incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
