M1 Liberty University holds on for 3-1 win against M1 Niagara University

The M1 Niagara University Purple Eagles tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the M1 Liberty University Flames would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

M1 Liberty University made the score 3-0 on a goal by Robert Ward at 12:59 in the third period, and M1 Niagara University got as close as 3-1 when Matthew Janketic scored 19:52 into the third period.

The Flames were led by goalie Matthew Pinel, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Pinel will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

M1 Liberty University racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Flames surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. M1 Liberty University's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five M1 Niagara University power plays.

The Flames were helped by Grant Garvin, who had one goal. Garvin scored 14:25 into the second period to make the score 2-0 M1 Liberty University. Ward assisted on the tally. M1 Liberty University additionally got points from Ward, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Colt Steele also scored for M1 Liberty University. In addition, M1 Liberty University received assists from Ben Hughes, Peter Shantz, Danny Logan, and Michael Bunn, who each chipped in one.

The Purple Eagles forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game M1 Niagara University had been spending in the box. The Purple Eagles did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. M1 Niagara University averages 3.6 goals per game.

More assists for M1 Niagara University came via Dallas Szustak and Dalton Bew, who contributed one each.

M1 Liberty University registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Bram Erickson and Shantz were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mike Parda made 24 saves for the Purple Eagles on 27 shots. M1 Niagara University ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Wagner was ejected from the game.
