Grand Valley State University rips W2 Aquinas College, 6-1

The Grand Valley State University Lakers were firing on all cylinders against W2 Aquinas College, and when the final buzzer sounded Lakers emerged with a 6-1 win.

Stacey Mathieu had a great game for Grand Valley State University, netting two goals. Mathieu scored at 17:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Grand Valley State University and again while 3:47 into the third to make the score 4-1 Grand Valley State University.

The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow W2 Aquinas College to score on any of its four power plays. Grand Valley State University forced W2 Aquinas College goalie Holly Ensley to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots.

Others who scored for Grand Valley State University included Frankie Wojtylo, who had two and Allison Lowe and Alex Brinkman, who each put in one. In addition, Grand Valley State University received assists from Corey Robison, Karyn Schmaltz, Brelin Tasker, Katie Danto, Jordan Yackel, and Tea Greca, who each chipped in one and Hilary Daniels and Taylor Lampar, who contributed two each.

W2 Aquinas College found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 10 shots against the Lakers' defense.

W2 Aquinas College was led by Kelly Labarge, who scored the team's only goal. Labarge scored 10:01 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brooke Forgar picked up the assist.

Lauren Allen recorded nine saves for Grand Valley State University. The Lakers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. W2 Aquinas College's Ensley stopped 46 shots out of the 52 that he faced. W2 Aquinas College incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
