Cornwall Midget AAA squeaks by Carleton Place Midget AAA, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Cornwall Midget AAA Colts escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Carleton Place Midget AAA Canadians.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Joseph Samson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Carleton Place Midget AAA was unable to stop Cornwall Midget AAA from sending pucks towards the net, and the Colts eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Cornwall Midget AAA found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Colts average 2.1 goals per game. Cornwall Midget AAA's penalty kill unit could not stop the Canadians' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. The Colts got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cornwall Midget AAA was helped by Noah Konink, who racked up two goals. Konink scored the first of his two goals at 8:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall Midget AAA. Konink's next tally made the score 6-4 Cornwall Midget AAA with 26 seconds left in the third period. Mathieu Sabourin also scored for Cornwall Midget AAA. In addition, Cornwall Midget AAA received assists from Ryan Vipond, who had two and Mathew Harrington, Samuel Ferland, and Ethan Mulhearn, who contributed one each.

Carleton Place Midget AAA's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Canadians average 2.0 goals allowed per game. Carleton Place Midget AAA found itself short handed often, totaling 14 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

The Canadians were led by Ryan Shaw, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Shaw scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall Midget AAA. Carleton Place Midget AAA had gotten the advantage when the Colts' Brant Woodside was sent off for hooking. Liam Markhauser provided the assist. Shaw's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Cornwall Midget AAA with 16:52 left in the second period. Scott Gervais picked up the assist. Carleton Place Midget AAA also got a goal from Logan Buchanan as well. More assists for Carleton Place Midget AAA came via Skylar Quartermain, who had one and Ryan Bangs, who had two.

Grant Craig rejected 18 shots on goal for Cornwall Midget AAA. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chris Cuglietta made 30 saves for the Canadians on 35 shots.
