Cumberland Midget AAA rolls over Pembroke Midget AAA, 6-1Smiths Falls Memorial Centre Sat, Jan 16, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Midget AAA Grads were firing on all cylinders against the Pembroke Midget AAA Lumber Kings, and when the final buzzer sounded Grads emerged with a 6-1 win. Cumberland Midget AAA was led by goalie Kai Edmonds, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Edmonds managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.25 prior to the game. Alex Wall had a great game for the Grads, netting two goals. Wall scored on the power play at zero seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cumberland Midget AAA and again while 7:53 into the third to make the score 4-1 Cumberland Midget AAA. Cumberland Midget AAA's offense rang up 38 shots on Pembroke Midget AAA's net. The Grads' goal total was higher than their season average. Cumberland Midget AAA has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Grads could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Cumberland Midget AAA also got points from Wil Murray, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Alex Robert also scored for Cumberland Midget AAA. In addition, Cumberland Midget AAA received assists from Roman Cannell, who had three, Mathieu Plante, Ethan Cahill, Tommy Stevenson, and Francois Drouin, who each chipped in one, and Daniel Mellon and Liam Peyton, who contributed two each. Cumberland Midget AAA was unable to stop the Lumber Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Pembroke Midget AAA eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Lumber Kings were led by Will Searle, who scored the team's only goal. Searle scored on the power play 8:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland Midget AAA. Pembroke Midget AAA had gained a power play chance when Zakary Rodrigue was whistled for hooking. Brad Richardson provided the assist. The Grads registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Lumber Kings' Jake Smith stopped 32 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Pembroke Midget AAA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
