Cumberland Midget AAA uses early goal to top Pembroke Midget AAA, 2-0

The Cumberland Midget AAA Grads took the lead against the Pembroke Midget AAA Lumber Kings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory.

Alex Robert provided Cumberland Midget AAA with the game-winning tally when he scored 1:23 into the first period. Roman Cannell picked up the assist.

The Grads were sparked by Robert, who finished with one goal.

Cumberland Midget AAA forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game the Grads had been spending in the box. Cumberland Midget AAA put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pembroke Midget AAA to score on any of its five power plays. The Grads' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Lumber Kings. Cumberland Midget AAA allows 2.2 goals per game. The Grads forced Pembroke Midget AAA goalie Jake Smith to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Francois Drouin also scored for Cumberland Midget AAA. More assists for Cumberland Midget AAA came via Alex Wall and Noah Johnston, who contributed one each.

The Lumber Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Pembroke Midget AAA was held below its usual level of production. The Lumber Kings put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. Pembroke Midget AAA could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cumberland Midget AAA's Seth Carter stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. For the Grads, Mathieu Plante was ejected from the game. Jake Smith made 39 saves for the Lumber Kings on 41 shots.
