OHA U18 Midget AAA survives penalties, beats CIHA White Midget AAA, 7-4

The CIHA White Midget AAA White failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the OHA U18 Midget AAA OHA U17 shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-4.

OHA U18 Midget AAA was sparked by Justin Cheng, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Cheng scored on the power play 5:06 into the third period to make the score 5-3 OHA U18 Midget AAA. The OHA U17 had gained a power play chance when Hisham Barayan was whistled for tripping. Craig Garrigan picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, CIHA White Midget AAA was led by Pavel Gogolev, who racked up two goals. Gogolev scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:08 into the second period to make the score 2-1 CIHA White Midget AAA. The White earned a power play opportunity when Justin Poirier was put in the box for interference. Jared Weber assisted on the tally. Gogolev's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 CIHA White Midget AAA with 19:30 left in the third period. Semen Der-Arguchintsev provided the assist.

OHA U18 Midget AAA forced CIHA White Midget AAA goalie Jacob Lavergne to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The OHA U17 outdid their season average for goals scored. OHA U18 Midget AAA averages 3.1 goals per game. The OHA U17 could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

OHA U18 Midget AAA additionally got points from Heath Ford, who also had one goal and one assist and Zach Letto, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for OHA U18 Midget AAA included Josh Kim, who had two and Thomas Chaulk and Dylan Stacey, who scored one goal each. More assists for OHA U18 Midget AAA came via Julien Allard, Jon Vandermolen, and Kyle Foreman, who each chipped in one and Brad Jenion and Aleck Forcier, who contributed two each.

CIHA White Midget AAA also got points from Weber, who also registered one goal and one assist and Kenshin Hayashi, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

Danick Francoeur rejected 16 shots on goal for OHA U18 Midget AAA. The OHA U17 registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Jacob Lavergne made 36 saves for the White on 43 shots. CIHA White Midget AAA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
