Red Rockets uses shootout to best RMC, 8-7

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Red Rockets defeated RMC in a shootout 8-7.

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. RMC got a shootout goal from Ivan Tsang. In addition to the clincher, Red Rockets got a shootout goal from Craig Phillips.

Red Rockets led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Red Rockets' Michael Nhan scored at 10:07 in the second period to put Red Rockets up 7-3.

Brian So had one goal and two assists to lead Red Rockets. So scored 4:28 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Red Rockets. Nhan picked up the assist.

Red Rockets' offense rang up 40 shots on RMC's net. Red Rockets surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Red Rockets averages 5.3 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Red Rockets also got points from Phillips, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Alric Leung, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Eric Siu, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Nhan, who also registered one goal and one assist. Red Rockets also got a goal from Richard Bond as well. More assists for Red Rockets came via Nelson Ma, who had one and Victor Tung, who had two.

RMC's goal total was higher than its season average. RMC averages 3.7 goals per game. RMC's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

RMC was led by Gurbir Gary Gill, who grabbed two goals and four assists. Gill scored the first of his two goals at 10:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Red Rockets. Gill's next tally made the score 7-7 with 35 seconds left in the second period. Jesse Rankin assisted on the tally. RMC additionally got points from Rankin, who also racked up three goals and two assists and James Ujimoto, who also had one goal and two assists. Holden Grant also scored for RMC. Other players who recorded assists for RMC were Tsang and Edmund Chow, who each chipped in one.

Darren Leong rejected 19 shots on goal for Red Rockets. Red Rockets incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Eric Wong recorded 32 saves for RMC. RMC ended with no penalties and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
