Mad Hatters vanquishes Smiling Penguins in shootout, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Mad Hatters defeated Smiling Penguins in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.

Mad Hatters overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mad Hatters trailed 3-2 after a goal by Smiling Penguins' Babak Filsoof at 8:52 in the second period. Mad Hatters tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Justin Darch at 17:56 in the second period.

Smiling Penguins was unable to stop Mad Hatters from sending pucks towards the net, and Mad Hatters eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Mad Hatters was helped by Manvir Sangha, who racked up one goal. Sangha scored 5:48 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Darch picked up the assist. Mad Hatters also got points from Darch, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mad Hatters also got a goal from Trevor Crane as well. More assists for Mad Hatters came via Jason Brunette and Nelson Yeo, who each chipped in one.

Smiling Penguins did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Smiling Penguins averages 6.5 goals per game. Smiling Penguins' offense rang up 40 shots on Mad Hatters' net.

Kristoffer Fransson also scored for Smiling Penguins. In addition, Smiling Penguins received assists from Chung Wai Tam, who had two and Adam Hanuman, Andrew Yick, and Sunny Parmar, who contributed one each.

Bruce Wayne recorded 37 saves for Mad Hatters. Mad Hatters incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Smiling Penguins' Michael Der stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Smiling Penguins finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
