Macon Mayhem holds on for 4-3 win against Fayetteville

Macon Mayhem survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fayetteville FireAntz on the way to a 4-3 win.

Macon Mayhem made the score 4-0 on a goal by Mark Rivera at 19:28 in the second period, and Fayetteville got as close as 4-3 when Nick Lazorko scored 19:21 into the third period.

Rivera had two goals and one assist to lead Macon Mayhem. Rivera scored the first of his two goals at 9:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Macon Mayhem. Rivera's next tally made the score 4-0 Macon Mayhem with 32 seconds left in the second period. Jackson Brewer provided the assist.

Macon Mayhem forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. Macon Mayhem surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The 34 shots that Macon Mayhem put on net surpassed Macon Mayhem's average of 24.5 shots per game this season.

Macon Mayhem also got points from Brewer, who also had one goal and one assist. Travis Howe also scored for Macon Mayhem. More assists for Macon Mayhem came via Ryan Michel, Stephen Pierog, and Daniel Gentzler, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz kept Macon Mayhem's goalie busy throughout the game, and Garrett Bartus made 36 saves on 39 shots.

Fayetteville was helped by Joseph Manno, who racked up one goal and one assist. Manno scored 5:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Macon Mayhem. Chris Porter picked up the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from Lazorko, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Kyle Gibbons as well. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Tayler Thompson, who had one and Josh McQuade, who had two.

Macon Mayhem registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The FireAntz took out Parker Van Buskirk after he had made 15 saves and installed Dustin Carlson in goal, where he finished with 15 saves and the loss. Fayetteville totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
