Pensacola holds on for 4-2 win against Louisiana

The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Corey Banfield put Pensacola up 4-0 in the third period, but Louisiana pulled to within two on Zac Frischmon's tally 13:34 into the third period.

Banfield was all over the ice for the Ice Flyers, as he tallied four goals in the win. Banfield's first goal came 19:34 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:34 into the second and at 19:59 into the third.

Pensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the IceGators to score on any of their six power plays. The Ice Flyers put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.6 they average per game.

Pensacola additionally got points from Jeremy Gates, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Adam Pawlick, who had two and Mike Krieg, Brandon Zurn, Charlie Adams, Joe Caveney, and Christian Horn, who each chipped in one.

Louisiana's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pensacola power plays. The 28 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 22.1 shots per game this season.

In addition, Louisiana received assists from Mike Kavanagh and Tyler Prendergast, who contributed one each.

John McLean rejected 26 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Adam Courchaine made 32 saves for the IceGators on 35 shots. Louisiana incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
