Macon Mayhem outlasts Pensacola, 4-2

Macon Mayhem and the Pensacola Ice Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Macon Mayhem made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Shawn Skelly secured the win for Macon Mayhem with a goal in the third period.

Skelly had a great game for Macon Mayhem, netting two goals.

Macon Mayhem's offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.6 shots per game it averages.

Macon Mayhem additionally got points from Lucas LaBelle, who also registered one goal and one assist. Macon Mayhem also got a goal from Dean Niezgoda as well. In addition, Macon Mayhem received assists from Jake Trask, who had two and Zach Josepher, Vadim Guskov, Ryan Michel, Stephen Pierog, and Mike Montrose, who contributed one each.

Pensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Macon Mayhem to score on any of its three power plays. The Ice Flyers put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.0 they average per game.

Pensacola was helped by Brandon Zurn, who tallied one goal. Zurn scored 19:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Macon Mayhem. Adam Pawlick assisted on the tally. Stephen Buco also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Anthony Calabrese, Josh Cousineau, and Joe Caveney, who each chipped in one.

Garrett Bartus recorded 33 saves for Macon Mayhem. Macon Mayhem ended with 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. The Ice Flyers' John McLean stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Pensacola totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
