Huntsville uses shootout to best Columbus, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Jeff Jones scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (2-1 SO) win over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Columbus got a shootout goal from Tyler Henry. In addition to the clincher, Huntsville got a shootout goal from Dylan Nowakowski.

The Cottonmouths were stymied by the Havoc's netminder Kevin Genoe, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Genoe managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.87 prior to the game.

Huntsville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.6 shots per game it averages.

The Havoc were helped by Kyle McNeil, who had one goal. McNeil scored 4:14 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Stuart Stefan assisted on the tally. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Taylor Bourne, who had one.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 27 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 21.5 shots they average per game this year.

Columbus was led by Chris Rial, who scored the team's only goal. Rial scored 9:01 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alex Pompeo picked up the assist.

Huntsville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Cottonmouths' Brandon Jaeger stopped 32 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Columbus incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
