Columbus uses shootout to best Knoxville, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Tyler Henry scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Columbus Cottonmouths picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Columbus got a shootout goal from Henry.

The Cottonmouths came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Columbus trailed 2-1 after a goal by Knoxville's Adam Sedlak at 16:45 in the third period. The Cottonmouths knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Andy Willigar at 18:10 in the third period.

Columbus stifled the Ice Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Columbus also got a goal from Ben OQuinn as well.

Knoxville managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Knoxville put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.0 it averages per game.

Trever Hertz also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Rich Ledy, who had two and Dan McDougall and Garrett Vermeersch, who each chipped in one.

The Cottonmouths' Brandon Jaeger stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Columbus incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Brian Billett rejected 14 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
