Mississippi RiverKings holds on for 3-2 win against Pensacola

The Pensacola Ice Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but Mississippi RiverKings held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Max Cook put Mississippi RiverKings up 3-1 in the second period, but Pensacola pulled to within one on Mike Krieg's tally 3:09 into the third period.

Mississippi RiverKings was sparked by Cook, who finished with one goal. Cook scored on the power play 7:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings had gained a power play chance when Josh Cousineau was whistled for slashing. Donald Olivieri provided the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi RiverKings had been averaging 12.0 minutes in penalties per game. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 24.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Olivieri, who also had one goal and one assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Todd Hosmer as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Linden Bahm, who had two and Reid Campbell and Charles Mosey, who each chipped in one.

Garrett Sheehan made 30 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 32 shots. Mississippi RiverKings registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Pensacola's John McLean stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Ice Flyers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
