Peoria uses shootout to best Fayetteville, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Ben Power scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Peoria Rivermen picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-0 SO) win over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Peoria got a shootout goal from Power.

The Rivermen saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Peoria made the score 3-1 on a goal by Terrence Wallin at 8:20 in the second period. Fayetteville evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Derek Elliott at 19:14 in the third period.

The Rivermen's penalty kill excelled, as Peoria gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Rivermen were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Peoria had been spending in the box. The Rivermen stifled the FireAntz's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Peoria was helped by Chris Wilson, who finished with one goal. Wilson scored 18:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Dave Pszenyczny assisted on the tally. Peoria also got a goal from Brandon Greenside as well. In addition, Peoria received assists from Mike Gurtler, Connor P. Toomey, and Adam Stuart, who contributed one each.

Fayetteville put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.7 it averages per game.

Others who scored for Fayetteville included Nick Lazorko and Joseph Manno, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Steven Hoshaw, Kyle Gibbons, Benjamin Rubin, Josh McQuade, Graeme Strukoff, and Bennett Schneider, who each chipped in one.

The Rivermen's David Jacobson stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Peoria registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For the Rivermen, Wilson was ejected from the game. Parker Van Buskirk made 20 saves for the FireAntz on 23 shots. Fayetteville ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
