Pensacola survives Huntsville comeback, wins 3-2

The Huntsville Havoc tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Gehrett Sargis put Pensacola up 3-1 in the third period, but Huntsville pulled to within one on Kyle McNeil's tally 19:21 into the third period.

The Ice Flyers were led by Sargis, who grabbed one goal. Sargis scored 17 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Pensacola. Stephen Buco picked up the assist.

Pensacola's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Ice Flyers finished with 19 penalty minutes. By firing 41 shots on goal, Pensacola exceeded the 27.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Pensacola additionally got points from Mark Rivera, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Adam Pawlick also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Mike Krieg and Joe Caveney, who contributed one each.

The Havoc were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game Huntsville had been spending in the box.

The Havoc were helped by Bo Driscoll, who racked up one goal. Driscoll scored on the power play 16:37 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Brandon Blair had put Huntsville on the power play. Nolan Kaiser assisted on the tally. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, Scott Henegar, and Matt Robertson, who each chipped in one.

Keegan Asmundson rejected 26 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kevin Genoe recorded 38 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Havoc ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeremy Beirnes was ejected from the game.
