Peoria uses early goal to top Fayetteville, 4-2

The Peoria Rivermen took the lead against the Fayetteville FireAntz in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

Connor P. Toomey provided Peoria with the game-winning tally when he scored 18:54 into the first period. Chris Wilson picked up the assist.

The Rivermen were led by Terrence Wallin, who racked up one goal. Wallin scored 3:39 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Steve Morra provided the assist.

In a losing effort, Fayetteville was led by Josh McQuade, who had two goals. McQuade scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The FireAntz earned a power play opportunity when Matt Summers was put in the box for slashing. Derek Elliott assisted on the tally. McQuade's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Peoria with 10:50 left in the third period. Elliott provided the assist.

Fayetteville was unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rivermen eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Peoria also got points from Morra, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Peoria received assists from Dave Pszenyczny, Brandon Greenside, Dan Bremner, Ben Oskroba, and Ben Power, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Fayetteville finished with 21 penalty minutes. By firing 32 shots on goal, the FireAntz exceeded the 27.7 shots they average per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Kyle Gibbons and Joe Tolles, who contributed one each.

Kyle Rank rejected 30 shots on goal for Peoria. The Rivermen totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Parker Van Buskirk recorded 36 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
