Pensacola vanquishes Huntsville in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Mike Krieg netted the deciding goal for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the shootout as Ice Flyers prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Huntsville got a shootout goal from Brett Lutes. In addition to the clincher, Pensacola got a shootout goal from Corey Banfield.

The Ice Flyers saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Pensacola made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by Adam Pawlick at 7:20 in the second period. The Havoc evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jeremy Beirnes at 11:54 in the third period.

The Ice Flyers kept Huntsville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Ruby made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Pensacola was helped by David Segal, who finished with one goal. Segal scored on the power play 1:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Cody Dion provided the assist. Banfield also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Cole Ruwe, who had two and Jeremy Gates and Joe Caveney, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 21 penalty minutes. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Huntsville exceeded the 27.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Havoc were led by John Lidgett, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lidgett scored short handed 17 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Lutes picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Nolan Kaiser as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, Scott Henegar, and Cameron Yarwood, who contributed one each.

John McLean recorded 28 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. Huntsville registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
