Macon Mayhem wins tough contest against Knoxville, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Macon Mayhem escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Macon Mayhem gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ryan Michel 12:01 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Macon Mayhem was sparked by Michel, who finished with one goal.

Macon Mayhem took advantage of Knoxville's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. By firing 32 shots on goal, Macon Mayhem exceeded the 23.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Macon Mayhem additionally got points from Shawn Skelly, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Macon Mayhem included Nick Grasso and Joshua Ranalli, who each put in one. In addition, Macon Mayhem received assists from Mike Montrose, who had two and Matt Robertson and Jake Trask, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Knoxville surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Bears were below their usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 25.1 Knoxville averages. The Ice Bears' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with seven shots between them.

Knoxville was led by Bret Peppler, who racked up one goal and one assist. Peppler scored 7:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Knoxville. Brad Pawlowski also scored for Knoxville. More assists for Knoxville came via Josh Cousineau, who had one.

Garrett Bartus rejected 14 shots on goal for Macon Mayhem. Macon Mayhem ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. Bryan Hince made 28 saves for the Ice Bears on 31 shots. Knoxville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
