Macon Mayhem hangs on, beats Fayetteville 2-0

Macon Mayhem took the lead against the Fayetteville FireAntz in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory.

A goal 11:50 into the first period by Matt Robertson proved to be the game winner, and powered Macon Mayhem to the victory. Austin Daae assisted on the tally.

Garrett Bartus spearheaded the defensive effort for Macon Mayhem, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 25 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Bartus will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.74.

Macon Mayhem was paced by Robertson, who grabbed one goal.

Macon Mayhem also got points from Daae, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Macon Mayhem came via Nick Grasso and Jake Trask, who contributed one each.

Fayetteville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The FireAntz average 3.3 goals per game. Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Josh McQuade, Cole Wilson and Brad Plumton took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

Macon Mayhem totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Parker Van Buskirk made 23 saves for the FireAntz on 24 shots. Fayetteville totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The FireAntz ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bennett Schneider was ejected from the game.
