Peoria rides Rank to victory over Columbus, 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Kyle Rank helped the Peoria Rivermen defeat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 4-1.

Peoria was sparked by Connor P. Toomey, who finished with one goal and one assist. Toomey scored 5:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Ben Oskroba assisted on the tally.

The Rivermen got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The 48 shots that Peoria put on net surpassed the Rivermen's average of 26.6 shots per game this season.

Peoria additionally got points from Matt Summers, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Brandon Greenside and Mike Donnellan, who each put in one. In addition, Peoria received assists from Terrence Wallin and Chris Wilson, who contributed one each.

Columbus' offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 12 shots on net during the game.

The Cottonmouths were led by Shawn Bates, who scored the team's only goal. Bates scored 56 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. John Jackson picked up the assist.

Peoria's Rank stopped 27 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Rivermen totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
