Di Salvo leads Mississippi RiverKings to shutout victory over Columbus

Peter Di Salvo made 28 saves to complete the shutout and led Mississippi RiverKings to a 3-0 win against the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Ryan Marcuz, who registered one goal. Marcuz scored 13:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dean Willmott assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its five power plays. Mississippi RiverKings was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Mississippi RiverKings allows 2.3 goals per game. Mississippi RiverKings put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.0 it averages per game.

Mississippi RiverKings also had goals scored by Michael Beaudry and Linden Bahm, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Reid Campbell, Ian Young, and Benjamin Rubin, who contributed one each.

The Cottonmouths did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Columbus averages 2.7 goals per game.

The Cottonmouths were helped by Cody Freeman, who had one goal. Freeman scored 15:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus.

Mississippi RiverKings totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Mississippi RiverKings, Sam Higgins was ejected from the game. Columbus' Brandon Jaeger stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Cottonmouths ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
