Louisiana's comeback falls short, Fayetteville wins 3-1

The Fayetteville FireAntz, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Louisiana IceGators and clinched a 3-1 victory.

Fayetteville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the FireAntz's Josh McQuade scored at 17:11 in the third period to put Fayetteville up 4-1.

The FireAntz's Parker Van Buskirk was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 37 saves and let only one puck past him. Van Buskirk managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.24 prior to the game.

Louisiana's power play was ineffective against Fayetteville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The FireAntz's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Louisiana power plays.

Fayetteville was led by Derek Elliott, who finished with one goal and two assists. Elliott scored 5:35 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville. Others who scored for Fayetteville included Nick Lazorko and Bennett Schneider, who scored one goal each. More assists for Fayetteville came via Kyle Gibbons, who had two and Joseph Manno and Brad Plumton, who contributed one each.

The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Louisiana's offense rang up 38 shots on the FireAntz's net.

The IceGators were led by Brad Bourke, who scored the team's only goal. Bourke scored 5:31 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Dylan Hood assisted on the tally.

Fayetteville ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Eric Levine recorded 27 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
