Peoria holds on for 3-2 win against Macon Mayhem

Macon Mayhem tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Peoria Rivermen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Peoria made the score 3-0 on a goal by Terrence Wallin at 19:03 in the first period, and Macon Mayhem got as close as 3-2 when Michael Wills scored 5:20 into the third period.

The Rivermen's penalty kill excelled, as Peoria gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

The Rivermen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Peoria had been spending in the box. The Rivermen relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Garrett Vermeersch, Wallin and Brandon Greenside took 11 of the team's 21 shots.

Peoria was helped by Chris Wilson, who finished with one goal. Wilson scored 15:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Dan Bremner provided the assist. Tim Hall also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Adam Stuart, who had one and Mike Donnellan, who had two.

Macon Mayhem was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Macon Mayhem surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Macon Mayhem put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.3 it averages per game.

Macon Mayhem also got a goal from Michael Montagna as well. More assists for Macon Mayhem came via Mike Montrose and Anton Lennartsson, who contributed one each.

Kyle Rank rejected 30 shots on goal for the Rivermen. Peoria registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Macon Mayhem's David Jacobson stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced.
