Peoria uses early goal to top Macon Mayhem, 3-1

Adam Stuart scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Peoria Rivermen held off the challenges of Macon Mayhem in a tough 3-1 win.

Stuart provided Peoria with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:48 into the first period. Terrence Wallin assisted on the tally.

Macon Mayhem was stymied by the Rivermen's netminder Kyle Rank, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. Rank certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.04 entering the contest.

Peoria was paced by Wallin, who tallied one goal and one assist. Wallin scored 1:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Stuart picked up the assist.

With 42 shots on target during the contest, the Rivermen exceeded the 25.1 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria additionally got points from Stuart, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Peoria also got a goal from Chris Wilson as well. More assists for Peoria came via Michael Slowikowski, Brandon Greenside, Tim Hall, and Mike Donnellan, who each chipped in one.

Macon Mayhem excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Peoria was unable to stop Macon Mayhem from sending pucks towards the net, and Macon Mayhem eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Macon Mayhem was led by Austin Daae, who scored the team's only goal. Daae scored on the power play 9:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Macon Mayhem had gotten the advantage when the Rivermen's Alec Hagaman was sent off for kneeing. Anton Lennartsson assisted on the tally.

Peoria incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Macon Mayhem's Garrett Bartus stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Macon Mayhem incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
