Lazorko lifts Fayetteville over Columbus, 5-2

Behind a great game by Nick Lazorko, who had two goals, the Fayetteville FireAntz defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-2.

Lazorko's tallies came on the power play at 14:12 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 6:49 into the third to make the score 3-2 Fayetteville.

Fayetteville put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.4 it averages per game.

Fayetteville also got points from Josh McQuade, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also had goals scored by Graeme Strukoff and Cole Wilson, who each put in one. More assists for Fayetteville came via Joseph Manno, Berkley Scott, and Derek Elliott, who each chipped in one and Kyle Gibbons, Brad Plumton, and Zach Carriveau, who contributed two each.

Columbus' defensemen bolstered the Cottonmouths' offensive attack, as they bombarded Parker Van Buskirk with 15 shots. The 37 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 31.2 shots per game this season.

Columbus was helped by Louis Belisle, who grabbed one goal. Belisle scored 5:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Andy Bathgate picked up the assist. Ben OQuinn also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tyler Henry, Kyle Shapiro, and Shawn Bates, who each chipped in one.

Parker Van Buskirk made 35 saves for the FireAntz on 37 shots. Fayetteville totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Shannon Szabados rejected 35 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
