Banfield nets hat trick, leads Pensacola to 4-1 win over Macon Mayhem

Corey Banfield lifted the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 4-1 victory with a hat trick against Macon Mayhem.

Banfield notched his first tally 12:37 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:05 into the second and at 19:53 into the third.

Pensacola was led by goalie Matt Zenzola, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Zenzola certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.4 entering the contest.

The Ice Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Macon Mayhem power plays. The 37 shots that Pensacola put on net surpassed the Ice Flyers' average of 28.5 shots per game this season.

Pensacola also got a goal from Joe Caveney as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Joseph Holka, who had two and Ryan Kesti, Jeremy Gates, Nick McParland, and Adam Pawlick, who each chipped in one.

Macon Mayhem was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Macon Mayhem surpassed its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Macon Mayhem relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Shawn Skelly, Connor P. Toomey and Joshua Ranalli took 15 of the team's 29 shots.

Macon Mayhem was led by Daniel Gentzler, who scored the team's only goal. Gentzler scored 2:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Macon Mayhem. Vadim Guskov picked up the assist.

Pensacola totaled 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 2-for-5 on the power play. David Jacobson made 33 saves for Macon Mayhem on 36 shots.
