The Gananoque Islanders and the Port Hope Panthers skate to 2-2 (OT) tieGananoque Recreation Centre Sun, Jan 24, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Gananoque found itself down againt Port Hope, but battled back to secure to a 2-2 (OT) tie. The Islanders forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Gananoque had been spending in the box. The Panthers were unable to stop the Islanders from sending pucks towards the net, and Gananoque eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Islanders were helped by Brody Cross, who racked up one goal. Cross scored on the power play 18:11 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Gananoque had taken the advantage when Port Hope's Evan Wasylyk got sent off for kneeing. Chris Boushy provided the assist. Gananoque also got a goal from Ryosuke Kabayashi as well. More assists for Gananoque came via Duncan McNaughton, Phil Smith, and Brenden Lochead, who each chipped in one. The Panthers' offense operated below their season average. Port Hope puts an average of 5.5 pucks into the net per game. The Panthers kept the Islanders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Quinn Cota made 45 saves on 47 shots. Port Hope was led by Dalton Lawrence, who registered one goal and one assist. Lawrence scored 1:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Port Hope. Dan Lagrois also scored for Port Hope. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Mike Smith, who had one. Gananoque registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For the Islanders, Craig Cross was ejected from the game. The Panthers' Sheldon Calbury stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Port Hope totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Smith was ejected from the game.
