Lawrence lifts Port Hope over Gananoque, 4-1

Behind a great game by Dalton Lawrence, who had two goals, the Port Hope Panthers defeated the Gananoque Islanders, 4-1.

Lawrence's tallies came on the power play at 33 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope and 12:49 into the second to make the score 2-0 Port Hope.

Port Hope's Aaron Young was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Young certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.77 entering the contest.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Port Hope forced Gananoque goalie Quinn Cota to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Port Hope also had goals scored by Cameron Lowery and Josh Gervais, who each put in one. More assists for Port Hope came via Blane Gaudon, who had one and Cameron McGill and Dan Lagrois, who each chipped in two.

The Islanders' offense operated below their season average. Gananoque averages 4.0 goals per game.

The Islanders were led by Matt Carter, who scored the team's only goal. Carter scored 14:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. Ryosuke Kabayashi provided the assist.

The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Quinn Cota made 36 saves for Gananoque on 40 shots. The Islanders incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
